Brief:
Mother’s Day advertising often shows motherhood at its most beautiful. But becoming a mother rarely looks picture-perfect.
For many Malaysian mothers, the first weeks are spent in pantang, a period of postpartum recovery and adjustment filled with realities we rarely see: scars, tears, hair loss, and sleepless nights. It’s a time when a woman is becoming a mother while still recovering from becoming one. Yet this deeply personal beginning is rarely the motherhood we see celebrated.
How could Dove show the beauty of becoming a mother without beautifying it?
Solution:
Instead of staging postpartum life, Dove used moments mothers had already lived. Mothers, friends, and family shared personal photographs from their postpartum experiences. 18 were woven together with an original soundtrack to create Dove’s Mother Day film.
No sets. No actors. No staged motherhood.
Because the most honest way to show real motherhood was not to recreate it.
