Brief:
Porsche commissioned multidisciplinary artist Red Hong Yi to create The Red Thread: Past, Present, Future—a nine-metre installation for ART SG. The piece, created with sixty shades of Porsche’s Paint-to-Sample reds, celebrates Singapore’s 60th anniversary and reflects Porsche’s pillars of heritage, innovation, and craftsmanship.
To accompany and extend the experience of the artwork, a short film was produced to capture the inspiration, process, and philosophy behind its creation. Through intimate storytelling and mixed-media visuals, the film explores how Red’s art, together with her personal journey of reflection, intertwine the past, present, and future into a continuous thread of creativity.
Solution:
To bring The Red Thread to life beyond the gallery space, the production team crafted a film that mirrored the artwork’s layered narrative and sense of timeless motion. Combining cinematic macro details, slow-motion paint sequences, and authentic interview soundbites, the film immerses viewers in Red’s process and philosophy.
The film’s creative direction bridges art and engineering, highlighting the custom-built painting device, the tactile quality of Porsche paint, and, ultimately, the reflective infinity of the final installation. The result is an evocative visual narrative that seamlessly aligns Red’s artistic journey with Porsche’s enduring pursuit of innovation and legacy.
