Brief:
Sarawak is rich in traditions, but in this wave of gentrification, Sarawak is suffering the same fate as many cultures: the pride that we have in these traditions are slowly fading.
Solution:
To try to ignite the pride that we have for our culture, we chose to focus on the bunga terung tattoo: it is a mark of a warrior, of a man, often done as a coming-of-age ritual. But we told the story through a girl who has a different type of mark: a birthmark, which she sees as a source of shame. But with the wisdom of her grandmother and a renewed perspective on the Bunga Terung, Melia’s birthmark turns into a symbol of strength and beauty that helps her embrace the marks of her culture with pride. For PETRONAS, the tale allowed the brand to once more champion a sense of unity and pride in our people and our customs.
