Brief:
Cosmoderm set out to create two festive music videos for Chinese New Year and Hari Raya, featuring Layla Sania and Perry Kuan.
The objective was to celebrate both festivities through music, performance and cultural elements, while bringing Cosmoderm's products into the celebrations in a fun, colourful and entertaining way.
While each music video carries its own distinct creative identity, both are connected through a playful transition.
At the end of the CNY music video, Perry makes a surprise appearance with a festive hamper, accompanied by a hint of the Raya song's melody, teasing the next celebration and creating a seamless connection between the two films.
Solution:
Building on the playful connection established at the end of the CNY music video, we wanted the Raya celebration to take on a different personality, bringing a fresh, quirky and contemporary attitude to the familiar festive setting.
Our intention was to create something that feels less like a conventional commercial and more like an entertaining music video. We took a subtle approach to product integration, allowing the brand to become part of the visual experience without demanding attention. Almost unnoticeable at first glance, but there for those who look a little closer.
Set within a traditional Malay house, we transformed the Raya gathering into a lively musical playground. Rather than following a conventional festive narrative, we let the music lead the storytelling, allowing Layla and Perry's personalities to shine through playful performances, spontaneous interactions and unexpected moments of humour.
We also wanted the camera to carry an attitude of its own. Through expressive camera movements, unexpected perspectives, creative compositions and rhythmic editing, we gave the film a playful visual language that moves along with the music and performances.
The result is a colourful and energetic music video that retains the familiar spirit of Hari Raya, but expresses it with a fresh personality and an unexpected twist.
