Brief:
Despite SD Guthrie International's efforts to ensure their entire palm oil supply chain is deforestation-free, the negative reputation of palm oil persists. We were asked to develop communications that would promote the superiority of SD Guthrie International's sustainable palm oil, highlighting the brand's commitment to ethical practices and differentiating it from non-sustainable sources.
Solution:
We created a visual concept using margarine, one of the most common products made from palm oil, as a metaphor to illustrate the difference between sustainable and non-sustainable palm oil production. Two slices of bread, each with margarine spread on them, were digitally altered: one slice represented the devastating effects of deforestation, while the other showcased the positive impact of sustainable practices. This visual juxtaposition communicated that, while palm oil products may look similar, the sourcing and processes behind them can lead to drastically different outcomes.
