Short film
Client:
Denhouse Co.
Brief:
With the recent ongoing events in Gaza, director M.Shaffuan wanted to bring more awareness and attention to the ongoing situation. It was then that he decided to make a short film, in collaboration with Denhouse, that expresses the far cry of the peaceful lives we live here in Malaysia '“ compared to those in the Gaza Strip.
The short film follows three individuals in a coffee shop, having a conversation as to what they would do if they were presented with a million ringgit. There, our main character, Fimie, struggles with the idea of life in Malaysia versus the millions of people suffering in the war-torn Gaza Strip.
Solution:
We took advantage of Shaffuan's quick editing style, utilizing hard-hitting sound design to push the visual narrative. Props in the film were identified and then used to blur the gap between both environments (i.e. camera flashes, party poppers).
We also looked to tragic historical events of the past, notably, the creeping barrage '“ utilized during World War 1 as a method to psychologically devastate any trenched-in forces. We sonically invented our very own creeping barrage, using it as risers that helped push the feeling of helplessness and impending demise.
