Brief:
Tenaga Nasional Berhad’s Merdeka 2026 film dives into the history of Malaysia and how something as simple as a spark can change the future of a country for generations to come.
We were required to provide a treatment where the coursing of electricity was the main character of the film, weaving through time and influencing the future of the country. With tasteful use of generative AI and shot footage, pinpoint moments of the nation’s history were brought to life with motion and movement, supported by sound effects, foley and ambiences that bring the scenes to life.
Solution:
The key motif covered by the film is the nation’s relationship with electricity, and the day to day lives of Malaysians that are affected by it, and because of it. Narrated by electricity itself, the narration has a grandiose and presence that lends itself to the patriotic nature of the spot. Pivotal moments of complicated sound design were given their due, with diagetic sounds and ambience grounding the film’s pursuit of realism.
The results were a powerful and moving soundscape that worked hand-in-hand with our score, driving the story forward with driving intimacy, poignant music and robust sound design.
