Brief:
Every Chinese New Year, brands talk about fortune and feasts. McDonald’s Prosperity Burger campaign continued to build on the deep cultural truth that the Prosperity Burger stands for: “Prosperity isn’t about what you have, but who you have.”
Behind the lanterns sits a problem nobody toasts at the table: who looks after ageing parents. When siblings marry and scatter for work, filial piety defaults to the unmarried daughter or the child who stayed behind. Reunion dinners become quiet standoffs of fatigue and resentment.
That gave us our insight. Filial piety still carries meaning, but it has lost its shared weight. In a culture that wishes for prosperity every year (Gong Xi Fa Cai), true prosperity means a family strong enough that no one carries the love alone.
Solution:
“The Blessing” is a film that drops the festive noise and sticks to emotional realism. It continues the earlier chapters of the Prosperity Platform and takes on a taboo: two siblings fighting over their ageing mother’s care, over distance and logistics.
The turn is quiet. Their mother, her memory fading, hands each of them a memento from their childhood. The fight stops. There is no speech and no one-size-fits-all answer. The film offers no prescription. It asks families to talk it through and carry caregiving together, so one person’s burden becomes a blessing the whole family shares.
McDonald’s anchored the Prosperity Burger in this shift. Prosperity is having a family to lean on.
