Brief:

Phase two of the Mister Potato x KFC collab was ours: KFC Cheezy Wedges flavour, in the Mister Potato canister and the Syok Wave pack. KFC had already launched phase one in August 2026, and our stock was still reaching stores one shelf at a time. That made social hard. We had nothing to sell yet, but everything to say. An "out now" post with no stock behind it is worse than silence: it sends people to empty shelves and teaches them to scroll past you next time. The brief: use social to build demand for a flavour people could not buy yet. Keep Malaysia watching for weeks, not one post, so that when stock arrived people were already looking for it.

Solution:

Social runs on evidence: leaks, sightings, footage you weren't meant to see. And getting caught in the act is Mister Potato's natural habitat. So we didn't post the product. We posted the suspect. Abam, our mascot, started turning up inside KFC. Then the CCTV leaked, one clip at a time, so followers pieced the crime together themselves. We never said "new flavour". They worked it out and told each other. Grainy vertical CCTV felt like something you found, not an ad. KFC's own Colonel logo appeared wearing Abam's sombrero, made to be screenshotted and shared. KOLs retold the story in BM, English and Chinese under #mpxkfc. After launch, Abam got "caught" and kept misbehaving. Results: 4M+ views on Facebook and Instagram. 533K Instagram views, 95% organic, with reach up 136%. On Facebook, 1.03M people watched for a combined 422 days. Fans posted the chips unprompted, drawing up to 12.3K likes. RM1.89M in flavour sales in three months.
